Socio-economic and research expert Simon Macklen has joined Maroon planning as economic director.

With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Macklen will lead Marrons Planning’s new socio-economic service, which will help developers demonstrate the needs and impact of programs on local populations, social infrastructure and the economy in planning proposals.

He is responsible for setting up the new service line, which supplements the consulting company’s existing planning services, including building applications and appointments, environmental statements and commercial reports, and which will further expand the team in the future.

Macklen said, “Marrons Planning is a forward-thinking consultancy that clearly sees the role of socio-economic work as a significant benefit to its client base.

“I enjoy highlighting development needs and their impact on the surrounding population, and in particular, identifying the benefits of a program to the local community that are often hidden or not so obvious. These insights can also help support a customer’s commercial decision-making process. “
