Heineken Lanka begins native brewing of its flagship beer model

Heineken Lanka begins local brewing of its flagship beer brand

This move shows the importance of the Sri Lankan market to Dutch international brewer Heineken and comes at a time when the country needs it most

Heineken Lanka announced the start of local brewing operations for its flagship beer brand Heineken in Sri Lanka. With this, Sri Lanka joins an elite group of 60 countries that have licenses and permits from their global parent company for local manufacturing operations. This move shows the importance of the Sri Lankan market to the Dutch international brewer and comes at a time when the country needs it most.

As the largest investment in the country to date, the brand will ensure that all locally produced beers are made to international standards under the direction of a Heineken-appointed brewing expert. Heineken is made from 100% pure malt and stands for great social connections and joie de vivre.

“This move to locally manufacture Heineken is in line with the Sri Lankan government’s vision of reducing imports, saving much-needed foreign exchange and providing Sri Lankan consumers with access to world-class brews at significantly lower prices,” said Maud Mijboom Van- Wel, Managing Director of Heineken Lankan Limited.

“It will also result in greater consumer choice in the market. We believe Sri Lanka has the potential to become a major player for Heineken in the Asia Pacific and look forward to its success along with fair market conditions.

Heineken is the world’s most international brewer and the world’s leading developer and marketer of premium beer and cider brands. Under the leadership of the brand, the group has a portfolio of over 300 brands, a global presence in more than 190 countries and strives to further expand its involvement in emerging markets.
