His background in computers and data, which includes statistical models for offshore exploration, developing machine learning models, and leading large data science teams at global corporations, will bring significant additional expertise to the forecast team.

For the past two years, he was a senior data scientist at the BBC, where he led a team of data scientists responsible for creating personalized audience experiences. As part of the team, Paul van Loon, Head of Advanced Analytics for Forecast, has been promoted to Director of Forecast in the UK.

Donna Brennan

BTO has appointed Donna Brennan as Legal Director at their Raeburn Hope office in Helensburgh, where she will lead the firm’s will, estate and succession planning team.

Donna is a recognized expert in her field and a registered trust and real estate attorney. Together with her colleagues in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Donna will play a critical role in building the team further by expanding her broad network of business contacts in the west of Scotland and beyond.

Leading auditing firm Scholes Chartered Accountants has appointed Ryan Allan as director, marking the start of the recent growth phase for the Kirkwall-based company.

Ryan, who began his career as an accountant with Scholes CA in 2011, has been with the firm as an associate director for the past two years. Now he is at the helm with directors Karen Scholes and Ivan Houston.

The announcement comes as Scholes CA builds on an intense activity in its Kirkwall and Edinburgh offices and supports clients across the country during the pandemic.

Ryan, a former Stromness Academy student, said, “The wide variety of clients Scholes CA works with in Orkney, Edinburgh and much beyond means their job has never been boring.
