Capgemini buys Australian IT consultancy Empired for $ 233 million

Capgemini is about to acquire Empired, an Australian systems integrator with more than 1,000 professionals in Australia and New Zealand.

The global IT giant announced the deal this morning and has yet to be approved by shareholders and custom closing conditions. Once given the green light, the French will pay A $ 233 million for Empired, adding around A $ 188 million to its sales in the region.

Empired was founded in 1999 and specializes in cloud and data implementations as well as managed services and supports broader digital transformation strategies of its customers. The company focuses on Microsoft technology and is particularly known for its end-to-end expertise in Microsoft Azure and Dynamics 365.

“Capgemini’s extensive transformation expertise combined with Empired’s strengths as a leading company in Microsoft Azure and Dynamics 365 will unlock the full power of digital transformation for our customers in Australia and New Zealand to run their entire business in the cloud and realize values faster. We look forward to welcoming you to our team, ”said Olaf Pietschner, CEO of Capgemini in the Asia-Pacific region.

The deal comes at a time of booming demand. According to a report by the Boston Consulting Group, Australia’s public cloud market will exceed A $ 10 billion mark by 2023, up from A $ 5 billion three years ago. This trend in turn leads to a wave of acquisitions in the cloud segment, both globally and domestically.

In Australia, Accenture recently bought two cloud specialists (CS Technology and Industrie & Co), and Capgemini itself set up a company specializing in cloud-based SAP solutions (Acclimation) this year. “Companies are at a turning point in adopting the cloud,” said Pietschner.

The deal, which is Capgemini’s fourth in the country in the past 18 months, will also give the Paris-listed group a big boost in the New Zealand market. With offices in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, Empired does about a third of its business in New Zealand. In Australia, Empired, headquartered in Western Australia, has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.

According to Kaylene O’Brien, Managing Director of Capgemini A / NZ, the transaction will position Capgemini as “the market leader in digital, data and cloud across the region”.

In the meantime, Empired’s collaboration with global player Capgemini will “offer our employees excellent career opportunities and have a positive impact on existing and potential customers by giving them access to the significant resources, service capabilities and international experience of Capgemini,” said Der CEO of Empired, Russell Baskerville.
