Heinz Tomato Ketchup introduces first 100% recyclable cap

Heinz Tomato Ketchup introduces the first 100% recyclable closure

Heinz’s move will save a billion plastic lids – enough to fill 35 Olympic swimming pools – from ending up in landfills around the world every year

Heinz, one of the most popular food brands in the world, has announced that it is introducing innovative and more sustainable closures for its squeezy sauce bottles that are 100% recyclable.

The unique new cap – made from an innovative, uniform material – was developed after Heinz invested more than 185,000 hours and $ 1.2 million in research and development into a suitable replacement cap for their practical and extremely popular Squeezy Bottles that sold one billion units worldwide in 2020.

On the mission to create the new cap, the brand created a total of 45 different designs that were printed in-house using a state-of-the-art 3D printer. After creating the prototypes, Heinz followed a rigorous testing process to ensure the cap met the highest quality standards.

The first Heinz varieties to receive the new cap will be the world’s most popular ketchup, Heinz Tomato Ketchup, and the popular Heinz BBQ Sauce. The cap will be introduced worldwide from 2022, starting in Europe.

The move means a potential billion plastic caps – enough to fill 35 Olympic swimming pools – can be recycled instead of ending up in landfills.

Previously, Heinz sauce bottles used a flexible valve designed to deliver the ideal serving of sauce per syringe, but which was usually difficult to recycle. The new innovative cap is designed to achieve the same perfect print of your favorite Heinz Tomato Ketchup from a single, rigid and more recyclable material. The result is that the cap – and the Heinz Tomato ketchup bottle – can be easily and conveniently recycled along with the other roadside recycling.

The new cap dispenses the same perfect amount of sauce every time without affecting the squeezability.

Jojo de Noronha, President of Kraft Heinz Northern Europe, said: “We are excited to announce these first innovative new closures on the market, which means that our consumers can now put every part of their Heinz Squeezy bottle in their weekly curb Recycle the collection. A lot of work has gone into finding the right solution that doesn’t compromise the use and enjoyment of our hugely popular Squeezy bottles for the hundreds of millions who buy them. Although we know we have more work to do, this is positive news from a sustainability and environmental perspective. “

Heinz is committed to reducing packaging waste wherever possible while delivering great value, and this move is part of Heinz’s promise to make 100% of its packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.
