Sol pronounces Brewed with Photo voltaic Vitality to mark its newest milestone

Sol announces Brewed with Solar Energy to mark its latest milestone

Sol is taking a step towards more sustainable brewing and another achievement in Heineken's sustainable development strategy for Brewing a Better World

Since April 2020 Sol The product brewed in Zoeterwoude in the Netherlands was made with renewable energy from solar energy. This confirms the brand's sun-inspired legacy and marks an important milestone on the brand's journey to reducing its carbon footprint.

With the installation of 9,212 solar modules in Zoeterwoude, Sol is taking a step towards more sustainable brewing and another achievement in Heinekens Brewing a Better World Sustainable Development Strategy. By using the positive energy of the sun and incorporating it into its production process, Sol creates a completely new way for people to taste the sun.

To mark this success, Sol introduced a new sustainability approach for its packaging: Brewed with Solar Energy. From the UK to Australia, South Africa, Germany, Finland, Spain and the Netherlands, consumers in more than 50 markets have access to the sun beer brewed at the Zoeterwoude brewery, where the electricity used for brewing is 100% solar powered.

“As the brand name suggests, everything at Sol revolves around the sun and aims to inspire people to connect with the positive energy that arises from it. Brewed with solar energy is a great way to strengthen our authentic, longstanding connection with the sun while also paying attention to the planet and its people. It is our responsibility to do business in a way that can be a positive force for change and to provide people with a product that meets increasingly sustainable preferences, ”said Diederik Vos, Sol Global Brand Director.

Every year the brewery generates a surplus of solar energy that is sufficient to supply around 300 households1 with electricity for over a month. Heineken feeds this energy into the public power grid, from which the neighboring community can also benefit.

Brewing Sol with solar energy supports Heineken's strategy for sustainable development, Brewing a Better World, which aims to increase the share of renewable energies in production to 70% by 2030.
