Cornish cove and its companies go on marketplace for £1.45m

Job created after MBO at South West construction consultancy

A bay of Cornwall that has attracted artists, writers, filmmakers and yacht owners, hit the market for £ 1.45 million.

The picturesque Lamorna Cove, described by Yachting Monthly as “the jewel of West Cornwall”, was put up for sale after 26 years in the same ownership.

Vickery Holman, the leading real estate consultancy in the southwest of the country, marketed the bay and its port and announced that it is for sale as both a commercial interest and a place of outstanding beauty.

Commercial property in the southwest in the news

Vickery Holman said it was one of the last remaining privately owned bays, and it hits the market at a time when the appetite for moving to the southwest is not waning

Describing Lamorna Cove as “a magical place, completely pristine and romantically picturesque,” Lamorna Cove said the consultancy said the bay would offer a “unique opportunity” for the next owner to change their lifestyle or make a commercial investment.

The £ 1.45m retail price includes Lamorna Cove’s trademark, the bay itself, a restaurant and gift shop, two paid parking lots, kayak and boat storage, moorings, a slipway and 15 acres of land.

Those commercial interests have existed since 1952 and the bay is known as a beautiful and secluded beach and bay, Vickery Holman said.

Located at the end of a heavily forested valley, the bay may feel remote, but is actually only 5 miles from Penzance. Lamorna Cove is probably best known for the post-impressionist artists who stayed in the area at the turn of the 20th century, making it one of the most painted parts of the British coastline.

Lamorna became an outpost of the Newlyn Art School, who loved the natural beauty and the ever-changing light over the water. It was the inspiration for Jonathan Smith’s February 1996 novel Summer, which became the 2013 film of the same name, starring Dominic Cooper, Dan Stevens and Emily Browning.

Lamorna Cove continues to attract creative people, including the late writer David Cornwell – better known by his pen name John Le Carre – and continues to inspire artists to this day. The bay is in an Area of Outstanding Beauty and the South West Coast Path runs along the bay.

“This is a great opportunity for a family or businessman to build on the work of the current owners and enjoy one of the best prospects in Cornwall,” said Mike Easton, Vickery Holman’s director of hotels and hospitality. “This is such a rare opportunity that it is difficult to evaluate the property. We don’t expect Lamorna Cove to be on the market for long. “
