Newcastle city center

Newcastle’s status as the rising star of the UK tech scene took off after global technology consultancy Thoughtworks announced it was opening a new office in the city.

Headquartered in Chicago, the company plans to create 100 senior technician jobs by establishing a presence in the Northeast.

A recent report by Tech Nation ranked Newcastle as the ninth most important technology hub in the UK, ahead of bigger cities like Leeds, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Invest Newcastle, part of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, supported Thoughtworks in its move to the North East. Invest Newcastle has introduced thoughtworks into funding flows and local networks, including North of Tyne’s Inward Investment Grant Fund, which supports companies moving to the area.

Thoughtworks has received £ 691,482 from this fund to help create jobs that otherwise would not exist and grow the digital economy in Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
