New Tyneside energy consultancy to create scores of jobs after move into Quorum Park

After moving into its first office space, a new energy consultancy will create numerous new jobs in the northeast.

National Utility Hub signed up within the 15th quarter in Quorum Park, North Tyneside for an area of 10,500 sq ft on the ground floor.

The company, which charges gas and electricity for businesses across the UK while offering a range of electricity options and account management services, currently employs 35 people but aims to increase its workforce to more than 100 by the end of the year.

The company was founded in March by Jonny Wood, one of 250 employees laid off after the collapse of the Hartlepool-based Utility Alliance.

As the company’s former operations manager, he was first contacted by other energy consultancies eager to get hold of him, but also by investors from Surrey-based Monarch Partnership who wanted to start a new business.

As a result, the National Utility Hub was established, where Mr. Wood sought out former coworkers to become the company’s first employees to work from home while new office space was secured.

The workforce moves into the 15th quarter this week after Mr. Wood signed a 10-year lease amid ambitious plans for the fledgling company.

He said a large chunk of his former colleagues had found new jobs, but said he was interested in bringing employees back into the industry when they chose jobs that weren’t right for them, while also wanting new people on board fetch.

He said he had ambitious plans for the future and wanted to “refresh” the industry he has been in for more than a decade.

Mr. Wood said, “This week will be our first in the office and the staff can’t wait.

“Compared to the usual energy consultations we worked in before, there are a few different branches.

“A lot of employers ask for experience and I understand they would want that, but there are many opportunities in this industry so we want to include both newcomers and old faces. We want to attract new talent. I don’t care if you’ve washed cars, worked at Greggs or River Island, or in a contact center – I want to create the next generation of sales talent.

“I’ve been in the industry for more than a decade and not much has changed in that time, but this pandemic experience has affected a lot of people. It taught me a lot about how business can be done and how jobs can be created.

“Quorum Park is the ideal location for our planned strategic growth and expansion.

“It has everything we need to offer the employees, together with the foundations, a great, really accessible working environment to develop a great career or to start over. We are very much looking forward to moving in and starting. “

As part of the deal, the growing operator joins parking neighbors such as Concentrix, Tesco Bank, Greggs and Balfour Beatty. Despite the pandemic, the office park completed 100,000 m² of new leases in 2020 and welcomed new users such as Verisure, NRG and SSCL.

Tony Wordsworth, Director at Avison Young, joint agent for Quorum Park alongside Cushman & Wakefield, said, “This is another great rental for Quorum Park that continues to appeal to forward-thinking companies that want high quality, flexible commercial space with excellent amenities, parking and transportation Employees and visitors. “

Mark Rabinowitz, Director of Shelborn Asset Management added, “At Quorum Park we are working hard to meet the needs of a post-lockdown workforce with space that can be adjusted as technology evolves and work patterns change.

“Modern users want their office space to reflect the ethos of their employees instead of asking them to adapt to the building in which they work. We are incredibly excited to welcome National Utility Hub to Quorum Park and look forward to helping them grow. “
