Civil engineering consultancy Dudley has started work on a new 3.4 million
The project for Roche Retirement Living comprised the provision of complete structural and civil engineering services from the initial planning phase to delivery for the 0.5 hectare site that was previously a care home for people with dementia.
Mexborough Grange is a development of 28 one and two bedroom apartments with communal facilities including a kitchen area, lounge, hair salon and laundry room. It replaces the previous nursing home and an adjoining house.
Roche is promoting the sale of the apartments in order to enable independent living, but with optional professional 24-hour on-site support.
After a competitive tender, Dudley’s was commissioned at the beginning of the new building project to provide advice on soil investigation work, motorway adaptations, sewerage, drainage and paving work as well as the construction of superstructures.

“In view of the poor ground conditions and various planning constraints due to the cramped plot of land and the dense residential area, the project was not without its challenges.
“We worked very closely with KPP Architects and C&AJ Marshall Builders to deliver a stunning structure.
“The project has been delivered through a difficult period when Covid and material deliveries had a significant impact on the construction phase of the work and the team worked hard to deliver the project in line with customer expectations.”

Dudley’s is a Leeds-based consultancy providing civil engineering advice across the UK. It operates in all major real estate sectors including residential, industrial, commercial, retail and education.
Key customers include the well-known developer CEG, Leeds United, for which Dudley’s is a contracted consultant, and Leeds Bradford Airport.
