Stortford Kickstart again in enterprise to supply free assist to unemployed jobseekers

A charity in Bishop’s Stortford that has helped more than 2,500 job seekers in the area is back in business.

Stortford Kickstart has not been able to operate its free service for more than a year after the center at Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church was flooded last summer.

After the floor of the church on South Street has been replaced and restrictions lifted, it will reopen on Thursday, July 29th.

In its 27 year history, the registered charity Kickstart Trust (Bishop’s Stortford) Ltd, also known as Stortford Kickstart, has provided personal hands-on support and advice to over 2,500 unemployed job seekers – three-quarters of them from Stortford, Sawbridgeworth and Stansted. which together participated in over 11,500 consultations.

This support includes resume writing, interview preparation and practice, job searches and applications, IT help and advice on careers, skills and education.

It offers free use of WiFi, laptops, printers, scanners, copiers and telephones. It also has a small library of informative books.

Stortford Kickstart is staffed by volunteers with backgrounds as diverse as finance, engineering, IT, consulting, recruiting, construction and human resources.

The service was organized in June 1994 with help from the Methodist Church, which continues to provide premises for peppercorn rental, and the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford, which provides financial support from time to time.

Kickstart is also supported by local companies like Tees, Genmar IT and Marketing Kinetics, as well as the city and district councils.

Founder and Director Peter Scarlett said, “So if you need help with your resume, interview preparation, or any of its services, you are welcome to come and visit the center. You will be assured of a warm welcome and the help you may need. “.”
