Business Book Awards

“Crisis Proof”, a book by crisis management consultant Jonathan Hemus, was one of the winners of the Business Book Awards 2021 on May 25th. From hundreds of submissions and a shortlist of 86 books, the jury awarded “Crisis Proof: How to Prepare for” the Worst Day of Your Business Life “by Jonathan Hemus, first place in the specialist book of the year category.

The Business Book Awards aim to promote the best business books published in 2021. A shortlist was selected by a jury made up of British business journalists, academics, thought leaders and entrepreneurs. Announcing Crisis Proof as the winner in its category, Judge Suzanne Collier said, “I wish we could give a copy of Crisis Proof to every company in the UK”.

Jonathan Hemus (pictured) is Managing Director of Birmingham-based crisis management consultancy Insignia. It covers the need for businesses to plan for an increasingly risky world where crises include cyberattacks, social media controversy, acts of terrorism, accidents, and management misconduct. He was interviewed in the April 2021 print edition of Professional Security magazine.

Jonathan said, “I wrote Crisis Proof to help business leaders avoid the unnecessary damage that a mishandled crisis can do to their business, reputation, and stakeholders. I am very happy to have won this prestigious award, but it is even better to hear from readers how Crisis Proof has enabled them to protect their organizations. The critical importance of this ability was underscored by the challenges of the pandemic. “

Judge Suzanne Collier commented, “This book will help you plan crises long before they happen. Every entrepreneur should read this book. It should be a business classic. “

Crisis Proof describes the steps required to make a company crisis-proof, from creating and anchoring a crisis-resistant culture to developing a high-performing crisis management team to the essential characteristics of a successful crisis response. You can purchase the book from the Insignia website.

Jonathan has more than 25 years of experience in crisis and issues management and has worked for companies such as Cathay Pacific, Lidl and Stagecoach. He added: “It is not the crisis itself that destroys a company, but the response of the organization. Crisis Proof aims to address this by providing a framework, insights and inside knowledge to prevent or overcome crises.

“With the right culture, leadership, and commitment, organizations can prevent crises or respond well enough to protect their stakeholders, reputations, and financial worth,” concludes Jonathan. “Reading Crisis Proof will help you achieve that goal.”

Business Book Awards Founder Lucy McCarraher said, “2020 has presented companies, publishers and writers alike with some unprecedented challenges. Business books continue to provide invaluable advice, inspiration and support to millions of people around the world, so we are excited to celebrate such a strong and diverse selection of winners again in the fourth year of The Business Book Awards. “
