Soben, a Scottish construction consultancy, has announced that it is expanding its activities into the United States.

The company’s new US headquarters are in Chicago, Illinois. Newly appointed North American CEO Joe Cusick leads a team of 11 consultants serving clients in the US, Mexico and Chile.

Prior to Soben, Cusick was a Director at Linesight, a professional services consultancy focused on the global construction industry. There he led project control for a data center program valued at $ 2 billion and has been involved in construction projects valued at over $ 8 billion. Prior to that, he held strategic roles at Currie & Brown and Faithful + Gould.

Soben’s design solutions include cost management, appraisal, commercial management, project controls, and bill of materials to name a few. The company’s US expansion was supported by Scottish Development International (SDI) through grants received through the International Manager for Hire program.

“For the past decade, our construction advisory solutions have disrupted the UK and European market. We have now seen strong demand for our services in North America, particularly as the US economy begins to reopen and infrastructure spending reaches historic levels, ”said Scott Smyth (pictured), Founder and CEO of Soben.

“Joe has a deep understanding of commercial and industrial real estate, data centers, life sciences, infrastructure, and the energy industry. We are very excited to have him at the helm of our expanding North American business as we celebrate 10 years in business. “

Soben’s British team has already signed contracts for high-profile projects such as Vauxhall’s One Nine Elms and Aykon Tower, Euston Station and High Speed 2, as well as for undisclosed customers for data center projects in Great Britain, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.

The company’s new US team plans to focus on developing customers in the Mission Critical, Data Center, Infrastructure, Life Sciences and Renewable Energy sectors.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Soben team in America,” said Cusick. “The possibility of growing a company from scratch and setting up a construction consultancy tailored to the US market made the decision easy. The determination, support and enthusiasm of the rest of the Soben team was also a key factor for me to get on board. “

The expansion into the USA was driven by Soben, who secured a leading developer of data centers on the west coast as an anchor customer.
