KFC Donates One Million Pieces Of Chicken To America’s Seniors Disproportionately Affected by COVID-19

Kentucky Fried Chicken Donates another million pieces of chicken to help the communities it serves, this time dedicating its world famous secret recipe to helping seniors across the country affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of this initiative, KFC is working with Meals on Wheels America to provide meals to seniors in need.

From now through May, KFC US is donating boneless and skinless chicken breast fillets to local Meals on Wheels programs in select markets, providing high quality protein that is vital to the nutrition of the elderly and the Meals on Wheels programs cook and seniors deliver with food insecurity.

In addition to a one-time product donation from KFC US to Meals on Wheels America, KFC franchisees across the country are also supporting seniors in their local communities by dedicating one case of chicken per restaurant to cooking and caring for seniors in their communities.

Each local restaurant team will determine where this donation will go – whether it is an additional donation to the local Meals on Wheels program or a senior citizen center or nursing home that may need assistance and hot meals for seniors.

To recognize and celebrate the volunteers who selflessly worked to help Meals on Wheels continue to serve the most vulnerable during the pandemic, KFC is donating 11,000 KFC gift cards (in honor of the Colonel’s famous 11 herbs and spices) nationwide Meals on Wheels program volunteers distributed, redeemable at participating locations.

The effort coincides with Meals on Wheels America’s current campaign, which aims to demonstrate the heroic work of the statewide network and its continued efforts to serve vulnerable seniors during the pandemic and in the years to come. Before COVID-19, nearly 10 million seniors in America were starving.

Research by Meals on Wheels America in April 2020 shed light on the harsh reality of the food security impact of the pandemic: 79 percent of Meals on Wheels programs said demand for services had at least doubled, and some saw an increase of over 900 percent.

This is KFC’s third donation for a million pieces of chicken to feed the local population. This program was launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. KFC’s first donation of one million pieces of chicken went to the front lines and key workers in March 2020. In August 2020, educators across the country received KFC’s second donation of one million pieces of chicken through KFC’s Back to School Buckets program.
