Stones Throw Records is looking for a full-time marketing director for digital and streaming. This is a newly created role in our Los Angeles office.

The position will oversee label marketing initiatives and lead the US-based team of project managers to implement creative marketing campaigns and streaming strategies. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in the music business in marketing with a focus on digital and streaming ecosystems. Familiarity with the voice, ethos, fan base and music of our artists is essential. This position reports to the General Manager.

Stones Throw Records is an independent record label founded in 1996 by DJ Peanut Butter Wolf with offices in Los Angeles and London. Previous touchstones include albums by Madvillain, J. Dilla, Madlib, Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk and Aloe Blacc. The current list includes artists such as Sudan Archives, Mild High Club, Knxwledge, Mndsgn, Benny Sings, NxWorries (Anderson. Paak & Knxwledge), Automatic, Jerry Paper, John Carroll Kirby, Kiefer and Los Retros.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and execution of creative and compelling marketing campaigns for new releases, major catalog titles and other label initiatives.
  • Identify and present new opportunities for artists at DSPs and with other digital partners, and help coordinate pitches and strategies for pursuing those opportunities.
  • Monitoring of the implementation of creative marketing strategies by project managers and optimization of department processes, including running campaigns on all social platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, Tik Tok, etc.
  • Build and maintain relationships with DSPs like Spotify, Apple, Youtube, Amazon, Deezer, Tidal, Soundcloud, etc. Also, help our artists and staff understand the current streaming landscape.
  • Build and nurture relationships with brands, apps, and marketing agencies to provide marketing opportunities for the label and its artists.
  • Monitor digital advertising planning and spend with third party agencies to grow our audiences and promote our campaigns.
  • Development and maintenance of systems for measuring analyzes to optimize ROI. Create detailed reports on all marketing work on individual campaigns that you can share with internal teams and artist management
  • Develop and maintain contacts with the creative services (e.g. video directors, animators, videographers, photographers, designers, etc.) and oversee the creation of creative content, including music videos, online campaigns, and other promotional marketing resources.
  • Analyze streaming data and advise on strategy and opportunities.
  • Monitor SEO and metrics
  • Monitoring the implementation of best practices
  • Interface to artists, managers, publicists, booking agents, radio advertising and other third-party partners.
  • Analyze and quantify the success and efficiency of digital advertising, social engagement and conversion as well as partnerships using various analysis tools.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with creative services (e.g. video directors, videographers, photographers, designers, etc.) and oversee the creation of creative content including music videos, online campaigns and other promotional materials.
Skill & Experience:
  • Over 5 years of professional experience with a record label or an equivalent company with a focus on digital marketing and streaming
  • High quality ethical and organizational skills with the ability to succeed in a fast paced work environment, accomplish multiple tasks, and prioritize
  • Relationships with DSPs, creative agencies, press, radio, brands, taste makers, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of analytical tools available on social platforms and the ability to draw insights from available data.
  • Contacts in the creative services area (e.g. video directors, videographers, photographers, designers, etc.)
  • Imaginative when working within independent label budgets.
