The University of Fraser Valley (UFV) participates in funding from the provincial government and the Canada-BC Workforce Development Agreement.
Micro-Credentials are short courses that help people acquire specific skills for careers in high demand. The short duration makes it easier for people to balance learning with work and family responsibilities.
The micro credential course offered at UFV is in the field of digital marketing.
“We know the COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more difficult to reconcile our lives,” said Paddon, MLA of Chilliwack-Kent. “As a parent, I understand how difficult it is to get access to education outside of your daily schedule. These micro-eligibility courses enable British Columbians to hone their skills and search for new career opportunities without sacrificing income or family life. “

The microcredit funding is part of BC’s stimulus package designed to help people, businesses and communities affected by COVID-19. The province’s overall response to the pandemic tops $ 8.25 billion.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many people losing their jobs or having to rethink their futures,” said Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford Mission. “That’s why we’re excited to offer these new and exciting educational opportunities. These accessible courses will help British Columbians on their way to economic recovery while strengthening their career options. “
There are 24 micro-credentials courses across the province that link to CleanBC and climate action, technology and emerging economies, healthcare and human resources, and building maintenance.

Many are recognized as a launch pad for completing longer programs. Over time, micro-credentials could become “stackable”, with learners having the option of combining individual micro-credentials to obtain complete credentials such as certificates and diplomas.
“Micro Credentials are an exciting new initiative for post-secondary education in British Columbia that enables learners to acquire the education and skills they need to access high-demand jobs,” said Anne Kang, Minister for Education and Training . “My ministry worked with the post-secondary sector, which quickly rose to the challenge of developing and implementing micro-entitlement offerings suitable for learners with a wide variety of employment or educational backgrounds.
“I am confident that the first wave of 24 micro-credentials will help people get the skills they need to get back to work and move forward.”
