Nestlé accelerates climate action with the Exponential Roadmap Initiative

Nestlé will work with its 150,000 suppliers to achieve net zero emissions, with a focus on the 30,000 companies that supply raw and packaging materials to the company worldwide

Nestle has joined the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, a coalition of organizations acting in line with the United Nations' 1.5 ° C ambitions on climate change. Members are technology innovators, scientists, companies and NGOs, all of whom are working to accelerate climate protection measures. The initiative is an official partner of the United Nations' Race To Zero campaign.

In addition to joining the initiative, Nestlé will also become a select group of multinational “1.5 ° C Supply Chain Leaders”. These companies will work to drive change in global supply chains and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the SME Climate Hub. Heads of State and Government will encourage and support suppliers to cut emissions in half by 2030 and to achieve zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest.

The move comes shortly after Nestlé's Net Zero Roadmap (pdf, 10MB) is published, which outlines the measures and investments the company will prioritize with regard to climate change.

“Nestlé is proud to join the Exponential Roadmap Initiative as a supply chain leader. More than 90% of our CO2 emissions come from our supply chain. Therefore, working with suppliers is critical to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. We look forward to working with others on this journey, ”said Magdi Batato, Nestlé Global Head of Operations.

“We are very pleased to welcome Nestlé and to continue expanding our initiative Ericsson, IKEA, Telia, BT Group and Unilever as 1.5 ° C supply chain leaders with the common goal of halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Working with suppliers and other supply chain leaders – both to enable solutions and remove blockers – is an absolute necessity for large companies with net-zero ambitions, said Johan Falk, head of the Exponential Roadmap Initiative.

Nestlé will work with its 150,000 suppliers to achieve net zero emissions, with a special focus on the 30,000 companies that supply raw and packaging materials to the company worldwide.
