Vaseline advocates real fairness in skin care for black and brown skin as part of the new Vaseline campaign, working with award-winning actress and color advocate, Regina King

Over the past 150 years vaseline is committed to helping skin healing everywhere, but this goal cannot be achieved if part of the Vaseline community does not have access to equal care due to systemic racism. Health inequalities continue to negatively affect Black and Latin American communities, which can lead to poorer health outcomes – and that includes skin health and access to dermatological care.

That's why the brand is advocating for true skincare justice for black and tan skin as part of the new Equitable Skincare for All Vaseline campaign, partnering with award-winning actress and color advocate Regina King.

Vaseline & # 39; s Equitable Skincare for All was born out of the Vaseline Healing Project, a relief effort in collaboration with the non-profit Direct Aid. It focuses on advancing education and providing resources and training to better equip dermatologists and physicians for the accurate treatment, diagnosis, and care of the skin's color.

The skin health of the Black and Latinx communities continues to be underserved, and without access to adequate care, they are likely to be misdiagnosed or undiagnosed, putting them at risk for long-term consequences. This is partly because nearly half of dermatologists say they haven't received enough training to treat the skin of the color. Representation is also an issue in dermatological care as only 3% of practicing dermatologists are identified as black and 4.2% as Latinx.

“I love being a black American. When I use my platform to celebrate who I am, I can remind people looking beyond dissimilarity that the inequalities blacks experience still persist. Blacks and browns are at a disadvantage for far too long. Lack of access to health resources remains a major problem, ”said Regina King, Vaseline Brand Ambassador and Creative Director. "It's important to shed light on the existing inequalities and be part of the solution alongside a brand that does."

Vaseline aims to create change to heal the skin of people who are currently not receiving high quality and impartial care by focusing on three key areas: education for skin care professionals, resources for the community, and access to care.

Working with Medscape, the world's leading online destination for physicians and healthcare professionals (HCPs) worldwide, Vaseline sponsored the development of a program to better prepare dermatologists and clinicians to treat, diagnose, and care for the skin of color. These learning modules cover the treatment of common skin conditions such as acne and scars, seborrheic dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis that are specific to skin color.

Vaseline has partnered to further meet the skin health needs for people of color with trusted resources and information HUED, a unique health technology startup and website that connects patients with health professionals who deeply understand their cultural, physical, and mental health needs. Through this partnership, Vaseline has co-developed a search tool specifically designed to help people identify and contact dermatologists of color and those who have experience treating skin of color.

The online platform also offers educational resources with expert recommendations on how to treat and monitor the skin at home, understand when to see a dermatologist for proper care, and how best to prepare for an appointment with the right questions and what to expect.
