ASICS pursues 100% renewable power with RE100

ASICS joins global environmental initiative to run 100% renewable energy

ASICS aims to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions at corporate locations by 38% by 2015 compared to 2015

ASICS is pleased to announce that it has joined RE100, the global environmental initiative made up of member companies who have committed to relying solely on renewable energies for their electricity needs in their business activities.

As a member company of RE100, the Sportswear brand aims to use only renewable electricity in all group companies by 2050.

RE100 is a global environmental initiative carried out by the global environmental NGO Climate Group and in partnership with the international environmental NPO CDP. The initiative is comprised of global companies in a wide variety of sectors, including information technology and automotive engineering, looking to leverage solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, geothermal and other renewable electricity in their business activities.

ASICS has set itself the goal of increasing the use of renewable energies at its business locations to at least 60% by 2030. The global headquarters in Kobe, Japan, the European headquarters in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, and the ASICS Institute for Sports Science in Kobe have already achieved 100% renewable electricity consumption.

ASICS will continue to promote renewable energy sourcing in all business locations and retail outlets worldwide to achieve 100% renewable power.

Last year, ASICS also announced a commitment to set science-based emissions reduction targets to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 ° C above pre-industrial levels towards a net-zero future by 2050. Currently, ASICS has achieved a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions at corporate locations by 38% compared to 2015 by 2030.

“Joining RE100 is a step forward towards our goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. We are determined to take action against climate change and limit global warming to 1.5 ° C so that people can exercise in a sustainable environment. This is a basis for our sustainable management, ”said Yasuhito Hirota, COO and President of ASICS Corporation.

"We will continue to act for future generations in order to achieve a healthy mind in a healthy body and to address climate change."

“We are very pleased to welcome ASICS to RE100. Japan is the fastest growing market for RE100. Japanese companies are sending a strong message to policy makers that renewable electricity makes good business sense, ”said Sam Kimmins, head of RE100 at The Climate Group. "The time to act is now and we urge other companies to follow ASICS 'lead and move to RE100."

ASICS will continue to promote sustainability in all business areas to help create a sustainable society.
