Ikea Group accelerates efforts to sort out local weather change

The Ikea Group is accelerating its efforts to combat climate change

Furniture brand, Inter IKEA Group, has joined an alliance of over 180 policymakers, leaders, unions, NGOs and think tanks to demand renewed engagement from all stakeholders for long-term climate change initiatives while addressing the urgent COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges to people and businesses around the world. IKEA – a winner of the World Branding Awards – strives to make quick and safe decisions to reduce the impact on the company and its dependents. At the same time, IKEA remains firmly committed to becoming climate-positive and circular by 2030 and reducing more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire IKEA value chain, while expanding IKEA business.

“Even if the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus requires urgent measures to mitigate the effects on people and companies, we will not lose sight of our long-term goals. We will continue to be long-term in everything we do and remain committed to our ambitious 2030 sustainability goals. This is not an either-or situation. The challenging situation makes us even more determined today to accelerate our efforts to combat climate change, ”said Torbjörn Lööf, CEO of the Inter IKEA Group.

By signing this statement, IKEA has demonstrated its commitment to continue to share knowledge and experience to accelerate the transition to a green economy after the coronavirus crisis. IKEA also strives to be an advanced industry leader throughout the green deal process in partnership with the EU.

IKEA sees the Green Deal as an opportunity to take action to help IKEA achieve its own ambitious goals. While face-to-face with the effects of the corona virus, IKEA will continue to share knowledge, examples, and experiences with lawmakers, and will actively participate in the green deal discussion for new policies and regulatory initiatives.
