Wigan businessman helps convey good colors into your houses

Philip ParkinsonPhilip Parkinson

Philip Parkinson founded Parkinson Decorators in 2010 when he was only 21 years old and his education was running out due to the recession.

As he was painting houses in the area around the district, he noticed that people sometimes struggled to pick the best colors and thought he could help.

Four years ago he founded Philip Martyn Design, a color and art consultancy that helps customers design their dream homes.

Philip Martyn Design can help people choose the art for their home

Philip, who grew up in Shevington Moor and now lives in Orrell, said, “Over the years I’ve found that there are many people who turn to a decorator and panic about what colors to use.

“They end up choosing white, magnolia, or cream because it’s the easiest choice, or they choose a color and take a risk, but it doesn’t look what they expected.

“I started Philip Martyn Design to help people choose colors.

“We do color advice. It’s bigger business in America, it’s a niche here. We help people choose their color schemes.

“It’s been going pretty well so far. Every customer has loved the service so far. We had a client in Westminster who was renting a £ 14 million apartment. We have also worked in Washington in America, Scotland, Ireland and across the UK. We recently did a job in Wigan as well. “

Philip oversees a team of four color consultants in the UK and US who help people find the perfect color schemes for their home.

They offer consultations either on-site or online and gather all the information they can before making their recommendations.

31-year-old Philip said, “We go into a piece of property and find out about the customer.

“For example, if you hire an interior designer, I know them and can probably tell you who did it because their design is your own and you live with it.

“When we give color advice, we learn more about customers and what they like. We look at what’s in the house, what works of art there are and what carpets there are. We even look at the clothes they wear. We evaluate the client and then create a color scheme for them.

“Every time we do a job, you won’t know Philip Martyn Design did it because we did it for the client.”

Advice can be vital for people who are unsure of what would look best in their property.

Philip said, “A lot of people already know what they want, but they’re not confident or don’t know how to put it together. We are there to hold your hand through the process and guide you in the right direction. “

Color advice isn’t the only thing the company does – the team can also help residents choose the artwork, photos, mirrors, or other items to display in their homes.

An art advisor can work with homeowners to identify the type of artwork they like, suggest artists, and even provide links to galleries around the world.

Philip Martyn Design is also the exclusive UK retailer for Miami-based billiard and pool table manufacturer Billiards By Brandt.

Artist Dan Brandt sent Philip a £ 16,000 pool table that is on display in an exhibition space. He previously sold pool tables to former US Vice President Al Gore and TV show Ballers and supplied one for the Rolling Stones to use backstage during their performance in Miami.

Philip said, “He’s big business in America and has done a lot of cool things.”

It is certainly a busy time for Philip as he runs both companies and is looking for new ways to grow them. He said, “Going forward, I want to expand color advice, art advice and raise awareness of these pool tables in the UK.”
