A new counseling service has been launched in West Norfolk to support children with their mental health.

Abi Rose Consultancy is based in West Raynham Business Park and offers psycho-education, parenting support, behavioral management support, anger management, mindfulness sessions, and cognitive behavioral therapy [CBT] Coaching.

The service is led by Abi Chamberlain, 44, who has worked with children professionally for nearly 25 years and covers much of the county.

She has a background as a social worker and previously worked for the NHS Child and Youth Mental Health Services [CAMHS].

Ms. Chamberlain said: “I feel in a unique position having worked for the NHS and children’s services. So I want to use my work to say that waiting times are not acceptable for people at the moment, and I will do what I can to address that. “

Support can be provided in the family home, in the community, through Zoom online, or at the office base, where a therapeutic setting and activities are provided.

Ms. Chamberlain said, “A lot of children on the autistic spectrum really struggle with insecurity.

“During the last lockdown, I had to protect my son and couldn’t work at home. That’s why I decided to take the plunge myself, mainly because I’m so frustrated with the criteria for accessing support.

“Early intervention is so important and I was so concerned about how high the criteria are. It can take forever to support a family.

“Even an hour with a child is such a valuable opportunity.”

Ms. Chamberlain visited children in schools and saw children outdoors during the pandemic.

She can also visit people’s homes directly in crisis situations.

Ms. Chamberlain added, “I hope the local schools and academies will consider the counseling to make my services even more accessible to those most in need.”
