Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced that it will hire 1,500 technology workers across the UK next year to continue investing in the UK economy. The announcement followed Monday’s meeting in Mumbai between UK Trade Secretary Liz Truss and TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan, where they discussed the company’s commitment to continuing into the UK economy, innovation, the technology sector and the development of the UK Investing skills of the workforce, TCS said in a release to the stock exchanges.

“This development builds on the great work that TCS is doing for our UK customers. Our continued investments have made TCS the preferred growth and transformation partner for our valued UK customers, enabling them to digitally transform their businesses to achieve competitive growth said Rajesh Gopinathan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of TCS.

TCS has almost quadrupled its business in the UK almost organically over the past decade, making it one of the largest providers of IT and IT-enabled services in the country.

TCS is also one of the UK’s largest IT talent recruiters. The workforce in the UK is young and diverse. Women make up 28 percent of the workforce, which is well above the 17 percent average in the IT sector.

At 12:55 p.m., TCS shares were trading at Rs 3.212 on the BSE, up 1.4 percent over the Sensex’s 0.22 percent loss.
