North West business briefs: Bishopdale Group; Kirkham; 4Sight Imaging; Rockstar Spirits; Jump Maniax

Lubricant manufacturer Bishopdale Group – holding company for a group of industrial lubricant brands, Metalube, Molyslip and UOP – has purchased seven all-electric forklift trucks for its Irlam plant, converting its entire fleet from LPG (liquid propane gas) to electric.

By switching to Mitsubishi Electric Forklifts, the company is estimated to save 31,500 kg of CO2 and the trucks are around 50% quieter.

Graham Clarkson, Head of Production, said, “The benefits of upgrading our trucks are many. Thanks to a unique all-wheel steering system, we reduce maintenance without changing oil and filters, as well as tire wear.

“Security is another benefit. These new models have a fail-safe seat belt system that can be adjusted so that the forklift can only be operated when the driver has the seat belt around his waist. Mitsubishi Curve Control is also built into our machines. This will automatically reduce the machine’s travel speed when turning and reduce the likelihood of an accident. “

Mitsubishi Electric forklifts are around 300mm shorter than the company’s previous trucks, which means the driver has more room to turn, reducing the chance of an accident in a confined space.

The Bishopdale Group exports 95% of its production to more than 90 countries worldwide and has offices in Manchester, Dubai, Mumbai, São Paulo and Shanghai. From its headquarters in Irlam, the company has a fully integrated lubricant manufacturing facility, including new state-of-the-art laboratories.

Observation equipment

Hi-tech company 4Sight Imaging pioneered stationary vehicle detection that could save lives on the UK’s smart highways network. Some believe this increases the chance of serious injury or death.

The Bolton-based company has developed software based on patented technology that enables cameras to see and identify vehicles that are stranded in one of the freeway lanes. Smart highways have no hard shoulder and are designed to keep traffic moving with variable speed limits to reduce congestion.

The rapid detection of stationary vehicles would enable emergency services to be deployed much more quickly at the scene of an accident or accident, which would reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Brook Jackson, CEO of 4Sight Imaging, offers to share the technology with future imaging partners to reduce the risk to the public. He said, “We have technology that can be applied to smart highways and we really want to find a way to work with others to get there.

“The human eye is currently monitoring activity on UK motorways, and such a system has proven to be fallible. We are unique in that our technology can use off-the-shelf CCTV equipment to automatically detect vehicles with a high level of reliability. This means that stationary vehicle detection can be performed inexpensively in many more locations, increasing overall detection accuracy and reducing the risk of missing stranded vehicles. “
