Press release

The world of work was turned upside down last year as many employees had to work remotely. Now that the lockdown wears off, flexible working is likely to become the new normal

2020 not only changed the world of work, it turned it upside down. Most of the world has been forced to move to long-term remote working, which has presented a unique set of challenges and benefits for both employers and employees.

These challenges and benefits often contradict one another. For example, a LinkedIn survey on World Mental Health Day in October 2020 asked LinkedIn users whether remote working had positive, negative, or neutral effects on their mental health. The results were almost entirely uniform; 49 percent of the 731 respondents said positive and 40 percent said negative.

However, the 40 percent of negative respondents are unlikely to want to return to the office all day. HR software company Personio found that one in four UK employees would resign from their current job if forced to return to the office full time.

Then how do companies deal with so different opinions about going back to the office?

Put simply, modern organizations should consult and listen to their employees and implement flexible work solutions that work for both their company and their employees.

Corporate Mentor and Advisor Lesley Heath notes that “The end of lockdown is by no means the end of uncertainty. The post-pandemic era calls for more compassionate leadership.”

Mental health specialist Kirsty Lilley supports this view, claiming that “an environment in which people feel their concerns are being heard and adequately addressed is important to reaching a mutually beneficial compromise” .

As a result, companies are now looking for office space that encourages and enables flexible working, with hot desking becoming increasingly popular.

A good example of this is award-winning IT support and technology consultancy Netstar, which recently moved to brand new offices in Farringdon, central London.

When choosing new office space, Managing Director Mit Patel said: “It was crucial for us to find a space that could accommodate our growing team of IT professionals. We listened to their preferences and we agreed that we should have a workspace that enables flexible working for a long time. ” -Term.

“Employees can now use an app to book desks in our new, modern offices. That way they can come to the office as often as they like while ensuring that we can continue to implement social distancing and protect our team.”

In the next few weeks, all Netstar employees will have the opportunity to work together with their colleagues in their new office space and thus transition to the “new normal”. In the future, they are also very happy to invite customers to their new office space if it is safe to do so.
