Shell has renewed its partnership with professional services company CGI for its fleet solutions business. The IT consultancy giant will support Shell by helping retrofit its mobility management and strengthening payment platforms that process hundreds of millions of transactions every year.

In recent years, the growing call to reduce carbon emissions from the economy has put pressure on traditionally oil-centric energy companies to adjust their offerings. Royal Dutch Shell, commonly known as Shell, is no exception and has recently partnered with a number of professional service companies such as Arup and Drake Star Partners to modernize its business.

As the latest example of this, the British-Dutch multinational oil and gas company announces that it will expand its partnership with CGI to help build and transform its Fleet Solutions business. Due to the industry’s historical dependence on fossil fuels, the fleet industry is currently experiencing rapid changes and significant new challenges.

By working with CGI, Shell hopes to help countries around the world develop a fleet mobility system that meets demand and sustainability aspirations. The new five-year contract is valued at over £ 116.7 million (approximately CAD 200 million) and provides for CGI to upgrade Shell’s end-to-end platform for mobility management and fuel payments. The platform currently processes more than 250 million transactions per year and offers fleet and mobility managers a digital one-stop portal that covers a wide range of their needs. CGI will also work closely with Shell to develop and roll out new services for its customers and to support Shell’s IT roadmap for change in the broader energy market.

The relationship between the two companies goes back more than a decade, including developments such as CGI, which Shell selected as its Lead Key Application Services (KAS) supplier in 2013. Since then, the company has supported Shell’s Technical and Competitive IT (TaCIT) unit, which is responsible for delivering innovative technical IT solutions and services to support the upstream and downstream businesses, including IT for Shell’s capital projects.
