While you develop a strategy for a year or so, you have to fill it with life every day, says Sarda

The work

In retail everything revolves around being close to the customer. You can see how your customers react to your idea immediately. While creating a strategy for a year or so, you have to breathe life into it every day. It’s a dynamic industry where decisions have to be made every day. That’s what I love most about my job. You’re always a student here. What worked for you today may not work tomorrow. It arouses a childlike curiosity in me.

I would like to see more players and more retail penetration in India. It’s still very small compared to many other countries.

The weekdays

My day starts by looking at reports: seeing what was done right and what can be improved. I usually spend half an hour doing it. I’m also looking forward to brainstorming with my team; there is a lot of exchange at work. I love interacting with my young teammates. There is so much to learn from them and their perspectives. They come with no bias or story.

Coffee breaks are the best way to recharge your batteries. This is my time to meet with my team, talk about travel, movies, food, etc., and exchange notes. I make sure I don’t talk about work at this time. This way I get an update on what’s trending in the city.

The weekend

The weekends are all about going out with friends and family. I like to go to all the trendy places in the city (I don’t miss any!). I also like to watch something interesting on Netflix. An afternoon nap is a must; it gives me energy for the coming week.

The toys

I’m not a big gadget person. The phone is enough for me. I love to read and prefer to encounter the real world instead.

The logos

I love shopping, and I do almost all of my family’s shopping (including groceries). Zara is my favorite brand. I can spend a whole day in the store. Some of the other brands that I admire are Zomato and Durex (for marketing right now).
