Ping an insurance company Companies of China, Ltd. announced this Ping an intelligent healthcare system, the subsidiary's intelligent health team Ping An international Smart City Technology Company Limited has introduced an intelligent audio screening system for COVID-19 to strengthen the control and prevention of epidemics with artificial intelligence.

Since the system was launched on February 18, over 580,000 screenings have been conducted in 47,000 households in 17 communities in Wuhan, and more than 1,600 suspected cases have been successfully identified for follow-up.

To curb the COVID-19 outbreak, the Wuhan city government instructed its local epidemic prevention staff to investigate suspected cases by making daily calls to collect information such as symptoms and body temperature of residents. However, human operators cannot do more than 300 phone checks a day. The efficiency and accuracy of such calls may also vary depending on the operator's experience and judgment.

Ping An's intelligent audio screening system can accommodate up to 3,000 AI robots that work simultaneously. Each AI robot can perform up to 500 automatic call checks a day, a total of 1.5 million a day. On the starting day, the system checked more than 1,200 households in Wuhan and categorized and reported information such as body temperature and symptoms to the responsible authority. It took a total of five minutes to complete all 1,200 calls, including the second attempt, if they failed on their first attempt.

Ping An's COVID-19 system uses one of the most advanced technologies in AI, Natural Language Processing Technology. The system can activate automated dialogue based on programmed questions, understand the semantic meaning of the conversation, structure and categorize the results for risk assessment, and report to the epidemic prevention and control management team, which can then closely track residents with suspected symptoms.
