Ben & Jerry’s joins Fb promoting boycott

Ben & Jerrys joins The North Face, REI and Patagonia in the # StopHateForProfit campaign
Ice cream brand, Ben & Jerrysstopped all advertising from Facebook and Instagram in the U.S. as of July 1 in response to the social media platform dealing with hate speech and urges the social network to take stricter measures against hateful content.
Civil rights groups, including the NAACP and the Anti-Defamation League, launched the #StopHateForProfit campaign on June 17, urging large companies to stop advertising on a platform they said was "bad actors using the platform, to cause harm, ”does not stop at least in July.
“It is clear that Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg are no longer just negligent, but complacent in spreading misinformation, despite the irreversible damage to our democracy. Such measures will improve the integrity of our elections towards 2020, ”said Derrick Johnson, CEO of NAACP, in a statement.
The boycott campaign #StopHateForProfit started after the brutal murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Ben & Jerry is the newest participant in the # StopHateForProfit campaign. In a statement released on Twitter, Ben & Jerry’s said the brand was asking “Facebook to take more measures to prevent its platforms from being used to divide our nation, suppress voters, and ignite the flames of To stir up and spark racism and violence and to undermine our democracy ".

The statement goes on to say, "We urge Facebook Inc. to take the clear and unambiguous measures required by the campaign to prevent the platform from being used to spread and amplify racism and hatred."
Outdoor clothing, The north wall was the first brand to join the boycott and announced that it would stop all paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram in the U.S. by the end of July. The brand released a statement titled, "The North Face stops all activity and paid US advertising on Facebook until stricter policies are put in place to prevent racist, violent, or hateful content and misinformation from spreading on the platform."

Other outdoor clothing such as REI and Patagonia had joined the boycott soon after.

Recruitment companies, Upwork, followed in the footsteps of The North Face and Patagonia on Friday June 19. The company tweeted: “Upwork takes a hate break without Facebook advertising in July. #StopHateForProfit. ”
