Converse releases assertion on dedication to the Black Group
The Converse CEO has released a statement on the brand's commitment to the black community
A wholly owned subsidiary of NikeShoe company Vice versahas released a statement about his commitment to the Black Community. The statement by G. Scott Uzzell, President and CEO of Converse, Inc., followed the recent outcry of social injustice inflicted on the black community.
The following is the reverse statement by G. Scott Uzzell:
For more than a hundred years, Converse has been introduced around the world and in different cultures – the canvas of our sneakers that fits independently into the daily lives of young people to make progress for themselves and their communities. What is abrupt and painfully clear is that there can be no youth progress without black progress. All lives cannot matter until Black Lives Matter.
While we process these unthinkable actions together, we encounter immense weight. Because we know that this is not a new problem. Systemic racism, police brutality and senseless acts of violence kill blacks.
We know that there have to be many ways for real change to take place in the United States and beyond. It will take hard work, but we are committed to acting as an ally with focus and continuity.
This is the reverse obligation:
We know that it has to start with us. This means working on our corporate culture. This means more opportunities, inclusion, belonging, representation and justice for current and future black teammates at all levels.
We work with black creatives, designers, athletes and companies. Your stories have played and will play an important role in creating the Converse story. We will provide additional support for issues that affect their communities.
We will use our platforms to empower black youth voices around the world and fund a committed community of emerging global leaders who are making progress together.
We'll work with Nike and Jordan To provide $ 40 million / £ 31.5 million to support black communities over the next four years. This investment focuses on organizations working for social justice, promoting education and combating racial inequality. Converse immediately involved the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Equal Justice Initiative in these efforts with committed donations.
We believe in the power of voting to bring about change, and we will help educate and register US voters at national and local levels.
Black people have been fighting injustice for over four hundred years. We will no longer be a witness to those who now use their voices in the fight for justice.
