Vans announces new global environmental sustainability commitments

Vans’ creative approach to sustainability is leading the industry with a renewable rubber initiative to reduce global environmental impact

VansThe original action sports brand and global icon for creative expression has announced new global commitments to environmental sustainability and responsibility to be achieved by 2030. The brand will develop circular products and systems that use regenerative and recycled materials to reduce waste and keep products in use and out of landfills.

Vans’ goal is to enable creative expression by promoting the “Off The Wall” spirit that comes from expressing the true self. As part of Vans’ commitment to inspire youth culture, Vans recognizes the urgency to move to circular products and will deploy systems that collectively produce waste and help the United Nations achieve Sustainable Development Goal 12, to ensure responsible consumption and production samples.

By 2030, 100% of Vans’ top materials will be regenerative, responsibly sourced, renewable or recycled, including rubber, cotton, leather and polyester. In addition, the company will commit to reducing CO2 emissions by 43% by reducing the average impact of top-quality materials by 35% by 2025. Using 50% recycled polyester by 2025 and sourcing 100% sustainably grown cotton by 2025.

By 2030, Vans will pilot and scale regenerative, recycled and responsible materials that will cover 85% of the brand’s materials. In combination with other programs such as working with suppliers to implement renewable energy in our supply chain, moving to regenerative, recycled and responsible renewable materials will help Vans achieve its goal of 30% absolute reduction in Scope 3 CO2 emissions compared to 2017 to reach .

This includes piloting and scaling up regenerative farming practices on farms and ranches that produce rubber, cotton and leather and using these materials in our products, researching bio-based alternatives with a lower carbon footprint than traditional petroleum-based synthetic materials, and converting what is used Virgin polyester in our shoes, clothing and accessories is made from recycled sources.

By 2025, Vans is committed to eliminating all single-use plastic packaging and reducing waste at every point in its business model by eliminating the use of plastic grocery bags in their retail spaces by the end of 2021. All remaining packaging is minimized and comes from sustainable product sources and is designed to be recyclable.
