The right way to Create a Classic Pin-Up Impact in Adobe Photoshop

How to Create a Vintage Airplane Pin-Up Effect

In today’s Adobe Photoshop tutorial, I’m going to walk you through the process of creating a nose art-inspired image of a WWII airplane that includes the classic girl-riding-a-bomb style pin-up. Traditionally, this art style has been hand-painted on bombers to boost morale and bring luck to the aircraft. Perhaps the best known is the B-17 Memphis Belle. Nowadays it’s an iconic art style that can still be found on custom trucks or hot rod door panels, on the back of motorcycle jackets, or on vintage-style posters and signs. Instead of hand-painting the artwork on the fuselage of an airplane, we’ll be using a handful of archive images to digitally put the layout together. A number of Photoshop filters and effects give the lifelike photos a painted look. The entire design is then placed on a riveted metal surface and processed so that the texture takes on the weathered look of the decorative nose art of an old bomber plane.
