Tejas Networks bags multi-year contract from Asia Consultancy Group

India’s largest software services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), announced on Wednesday that it would be hiring 1,500 technology workers across the UK over the next year.

The announcement followed Monday’s meeting in Mumbai between the visit of UK Trade Secretary Liz Truss and TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan.

During the meeting, both sides discussed TCS ‘commitment to continue investing in the UK economy, innovation, the technology sector and the skills development of the workforce.

The latest announcement builds on TCS ’45 year history in the UK.

By partnering with some of the UK’s largest companies in their growth and transformation initiatives and helping them leverage new technologies and services to launch new innovative products and services, TCS has been an integral part of UK business initiatives to remain globally competitive, said TCS in a statement.

The company, headquartered in Mumbai, has almost quadrupled its UK business almost organically over the past decade, making it one of the largest providers of IT and IT-enabled services in the country. TCS is also one of the UK’s largest IT talent recruiters.

The TCS workforce in the UK is represented by 54 nationalities and 28 percent of the workforce are women, well above the 17 percent average in the IT sector. However, the company did not provide the current number of employees for the UK market.

The company’s sales in the UK market at the end of fiscal 20 were approximately £ 2.7 billion.

Our continued investments have made TCS the preferred growth and transformation partner for our valued customers in the UK, enabling them to digitally transform their businesses for competitive growth, said Gopinathan.

Truss, UK Secretary of State for International Trade, said closer trade ties will create opportunities for UK businesses that just weren’t there as part of the EU and set the stage for a much closer partnership to ensure that more investors like TCS get jobs and Bringing growth to the UK.

We will work much closer together in tomorrow’s industries like science, technology and green growth so that we can better back down and get an export, investment and job related recovery from coronavirus, Truss added.

Amit Kapur, Country Head of TCS UK and Ireland noted that the UK has been an important market for the company for many years.

We are creating thousands of well-paying jobs in communities across the UK, rejuvenating the local economy and giving young people visibility for long-term careers in technology, he added.

TCS STEM competency programs have reached more than 1.5 lakh in the UK in the past three years.

As part of the Tata Group, the $ 22 billion TCS has over 4.69 lakh advisors in 46 countries.
