South West property consultancy Vickery Holman toasts file 12 months

Job created after MBO at South West construction consultancy

South West real estate consultancy Vickery Holman has reported its best financial results since it was founded in 1990 – creating jobs across the region.

The company, which has offices in Plymouth, Exeter, Truro and Bristol, has had its strongest year in terms of sales and pre-tax profit despite the impact of the Covid pandemic on business operations and the commercial real estate market.

The growth in sales comes from all business areas, with strong services from commercial agencies and general practitioner surveying due to the active commercial real estate market.

The company also reported that the workforce has grown to over 80, with 12 additional employees hired in the past 12 months.

Mark Pellow, Managing Director at Vickery Holman, said: “’We adjusted to the lockdown in early April 2020. Our investments in our IT infrastructure and cloud systems over the past two years have enabled us to quickly switch to home work and continue to support our customers.

“We also decided to take this opportunity to step up our marketing and PR, and be proactive in setting up webinars and helping customers to keep up to date.

“This bolder approach has borne fruit and the entire company is benefiting from new assignments and some very high-profile assignments.”

He added, “Customers are at the heart of our business, an approach supported by our commitment to customer service as well as during the pandemic recertification for ISO standards in quality assurance and environmental practice. In addition, we have relocated both our Plymouth and Bristol offices in 2021, which shows our confidence in the office market. “

And he said: “In the course of the upswing in the real estate market, our building surveying team was also busy and our real estate management portfolio is growing.”

In 2021, Vickery Holman moved to larger Bristol offices for the second time in two years as the Bristol workforce doubled in one year. ‘

“With our experience in commercial real estate and an established reputation in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, we opened our Bristol office in 2016 with just one employee,” said Director Robert Beale.

“Since then we have invested heavily in growth and achieved very robust sales in 2021. I am delighted that we have hired seven additional employees since September 2020 to help us cope with the workload and further expansion.

“‘Over the past 12 months we’ve hired people to help us with appraisal, building surveying, development and agency workloads.

Vickery Holman was founded in 1990 by Nick Holman, John Vickery and Greg Oldrieve. A few years later the company became a GmbH with employee shareholders. Mr. Vickery has retired and Mr. Holman and Mr. Oldrieve served as directors and chairmen of the company for many years. In 2010, the two resigned, leaving remaining directors Mark Pellow, Mike Oldrieve and Dennis Venn to lead the company, aided by the appointments of directors Justin Armstrong and Alan Treloar. When Mike Oldrieve stepped down from his post as director in 2015, Robert Beale became director.

Vickery Holman’s roots can be traced back to 1848 through various mergers and acquisitions. Today Vickery Holman is a limited liability company owned by its employees and a member of the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors). In 2020, following one approach by its directors, King Wilkinson & Company took over a long-established professional company of Chartered Surveyors based in Exeter with the acquisition of King Wilkinson & Company.
