Just Eat entered the fast food delivery market by partnering with Asda on its first UK supermarket project.

Starting in January, Just Eat customers will be able to add a range of products to their shopping cart from five Asda branches; the exact locations will be announced in the new year.

“We live in an on-demand world,” said Andrew Kenny, UK managing director of Just Eat. “We want to make sure that our customers get the food they want, when they want, when they want it. Our partnership with Asda means we can help people access everything from the essentials in the closet to fresh groceries in minutes, ”said Kenny.

Just Eat is following in the footsteps of its competitors who have already signed fast delivery deals with some of the UK’s largest supermarkets.

Best known for restaurant and fast food delivery, Just Eat said customers can order up to 1,000 grocery items seven days a week.

The two companies expect the partnership to expand to additional Asda branches over the course of the next year.

The partnership builds on an existing relationship with Just Eat supplying pizzas and food specials from Asda Kitchen, the grocer’s indoor café and diner that operates in 42 locations nationwide.

“We’re always looking for new ways to offer our customers more choice and expand the number of delivery options available,” said Simon Gregg, Asda vice president of online grocery stores. “The trial will also make Asda more accessible to a wider customer base with Just Eat’s significant presence in the on-demand grocery delivery space,” added Gregg.

Just Eat has more than 60,000 restaurant partners for whom it offers a delivery service that covers 95% of the UK.

The grocery delivery service has more than 10,000 grocery and convenience store partners on its platform internationally, including brands such as Spar, Shell and 7-Eleven.
