The establishment of the international university, which has been under development since 2017, was initiated by the successful specialty chemicals entrepreneur Yang Shuren, who adheres to Simon’s business philosophy of medium-sized global market leadership.

Simon’s vision of specialization and globalization for inconspicuous medium-sized companies, which is summarized in the world’s best-selling book ‘Hidden Champions’ – one of his more than 35 publications – has earned the long-time CEO of Simon-Kucher a place in the renowned Thinkers50 Hall of Fame and will inform the curriculum of the new business school.

Meanwhile, according to Simon, the school itself should strive to become a hidden champion. “The mission of the new school is to prepare managers for medium-sized companies, which are very important to the Chinese economy,” he said in his opening speech about Zoom, before describing the main characteristics of the ‘hidden champions’. Concept.

“First, the ambition to be world class. Second, focus, because only focus leads to world class. And third, internationalization. These are excellent guidelines for the new business school. “

In fact, the university has a strong international focus and has already initiated cooperation with other universities overseas. In addition, the newly founded business school is supported by an international advisory board of leading experts, whose founding president is Liu Hongsong, professor of strategy and international relations. Simon took the global perspective home in the institute’s inaugural lecture.

“In the future, exports will be replaced by foreign direct investment. As a result, companies will increasingly invest in each other’s countries, ”he told the students, describing the new business school as a bridge between China and the rest of the world at a time when all countries depend on mutually beneficial economic cooperation . “Staying away is not an option, and the new university will certainly contribute to international understanding.”
