Samsung Unveils Its Mobile Sustainability Vision:

Galaxy for the Planet underscores Samsung’s commitment to being more sustainable across product lifecycles and business processes

Samsung electronics unveiled Galaxy for the Planet, the sustainability platform for its wireless business driven by its size, innovation and the spirit of open collaboration to take tangible climate action across its business. The company has set initial targets to be achieved by 2025 to reduce its ecological footprint and reduce resource depletion from production to disposal of its Galaxy products.

“We believe everyone has a role to play in delivering innovative solutions that will protect the planet for generations to come. Samsung understands that our efforts must match our size, influence, and the size of the entire Galaxy ecosystem around the world, ”said TM Roh, president and head of the Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

“Galaxy for the Planet is an important step in our journey towards a more sustainable world and we will do so with the openness, transparency and collaboration that drives everything we do.”

The company believes that integrating sustainable practices into every phase of production is critical to minimizing environmental impact and creating a better future for communities around the world and the next generation of innovators. Samsung will work to meet its original goals by 2025 and continue to develop its commitment to address new challenges beyond 2025

The electronics company invests in new and innovative environmentally conscious materials for its products to promote a stronger circular economy. With a goal of using recycled material in all new mobile products by 2025, Samsung will use a variety of recycled materials in its products, taking into account their strength, aesthetics and durability.

Samsung plans to eliminate all plastic in mobile packaging, reduce the standby power consumption of all smartphone chargers to below 0.005W, and avoid landfill waste by 2025.

The company will continue to find new ways to address the climate crisis and expand its role in accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. It strives to transparently report progress and to work with industry peers and partners throughout its sustainability journey.

“Samsung is committed to creating solutions that enable our people and our planet a better future. However, we know that we cannot do this alone and that the collective struggle for the planet is not a competition, ”said Stephanie Choi, SVP & Head of Marketing for the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

“We strive to work together in everything we do, and our strategic partnerships across sectors, industries and markets enable us to scale positive impacts around the world – and help us achieve a more sustainable future.”
