Saint Laurent to Ban Fur

Saint Laurent, luxury fashion brand, bans fur in 2022

According to its parent company Kering, the French luxury fashion brand Saint Laurent will stop designing clothes made of fur from next year. Another Kering brand, Brioni, would also be fur-free by the fall collections of 2022, the company said.

“For many years, Kering has sought to take the lead in sustainability, guided by a vision of luxury that is inextricably linked to the highest environmental and social values and standards. When it comes to animal welfare, our group has always shown its willingness to improve practices within its own supply chain and in the luxury sector in general. Now is the time to take another step forward and end the use of fur in all of our collections. The world has changed along with our customers and of course luxury has to adapt to it, ”said François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering.

It is time for all luxury fashion brands to move forward – there are still many brands that use fur as a feature in a number of designs. Saint Laurent is one of many who hopefully will follow in the anti-fur footsteps of the fashion brands before them.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) welcomed the move after a so-called “decade-long” attempt to get Kering to ban the use of fur. “Nobody with a heart wears fur. No meaningful designer will touch it. Any fashion house that still sells it in 2021 is an embarrassment, “Peta said in a statement.

Saint Laurent and Brioni were the last Kering brands to ban the use of fur: Gucci, Balenciaga, Bottega Venata and Alexander McQueen all do not use fur. “When it comes to animal welfare, our group has always shown its willingness to improve practices within its own supply chain and the luxury sector in general,” said Mr Pinault. “Now is the time to take another step forward and end the use of fur in all of our collections. The world has changed along with our customers and of course luxury has to adapt to it. ”He added.
