PUMA continues to craft kits via the lens of tradition
PUMA pays tribute to Manchester's historic Castlefield and Bridgewater Canal with the new Manchester City Away Kit
Sports company PUMA unveiled the new Manchester City away shirt for the 2020/21 season to be worn by the men's, women's and youth teams. The new away kit features a bold all-over pattern inspired by Castlefield and the Bridgewater Canal, an area symbolizing Manchester's past, present and future.
While Castlefield's history dates back to Roman times, it is most hailed as the centerpiece of Manchester's industrial past, which was once the terminus of the world's first industrial canal, the Bridgewater Canal and the first intercity railroad.
The area has now become one of the liveliest arts and music centers in the city and is home to Manchester's multicultural youth scene. It has developed into a region that is full of creativity and collaboration.
“With this kit we wanted to celebrate the culture of the city. We looked for places where people come together to discover their creativity through art and music. Castlefield is rich in history and importance to the city; it really connects with the cultural youth scene and creative roots. The bridge over the canal is an iconic design that inspired us to bring this classic structure to life through the pattern and color palette of the new kit. We wanted the kit to feel special and unique to the fans and to celebrate the rich culture of Manchester, ”said David Bremond, Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Licensed.
The new Manchester City Away shirt is printed tone by tone with an all-over pattern influenced by the structures and patterns of Castlefield and the Bridgewater Canal in dark blue and black with copper details. The new kit is reminiscent of the Home shirt and takes inspiration from the city of Manchester and its history as PUMA continues to make kits from a culture perspective. The kit is completed with black shorts and dark blue socks.
