Socio-economics and research expert Simon Macklen has joined Marrons Planning as Director of Economics.

With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, he will lead Marrons Planning’s new socio-economic service, helping developers demonstrate the need for and impact of programs on local populations, social infrastructure and the economy in planning proposals.

In his new role, Macklen is responsible for setting up the new service line, which complements the consulting company’s existing planning services, including building applications and appointments, environmental statements and commercial reports, and which will expand the team in the future.

He said, “Marrons Planning is a forward-thinking consultancy that clearly sees the role of socio-economic work as a significant benefit to its client base.

“I enjoy highlighting development needs and their impact on the surrounding population, and in particular, identifying the benefits of a program to the local community that are often hidden or not so obvious. These insights can also help support a customer’s commercial decision-making process. “

Brian Mullin, Partner and Head of Marrons Planning, said, “This is a really exciting new project for us and one that will allow us to combine urban planning and valuation skills with socio-demographic and economic analysis to provide robust evidence that the Business inform decision-making and successful planning results.

“We are known for offering planning advice that supports our customers’ decision-making process, drives projects forward and uses our close working relationships with local planning authorities to develop strategic locations.

“Now we can also provide our customers with the tools they need to respond to the requirements of the national planning policy framework and to demonstrate and communicate the full range of benefits of their proposals.”

Marrons has offices in Birmingham, Solihull and Stratford-upon-Avon.

A former Special Constable has joined a real estate agency in Birmingham.

After three years in the local office of real estate specialist Colliers, Narinder Kaur joined KWB as a property manager.

“I enjoyed my time there, working on commercial and residential real estate for the Central England Cooperative, but I thought I had enough experience now for a senior position,” she said.

“At KWB, I will mainly deal with management issues, but I will also support new leases, inspections and direct cooperation with customers. I see myself as ‘people’ and I am very much looking forward to taking on these new tasks. “

In her role with Newhall Street Agents, she will advise clients on security issues, for which she will use her experience as a Special Constable with the West Midlands Police.
