Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) has hired legal tech advisor George Steven from document automation service DocGovern to grow its NRF Transform Change and Innovation business.

Steven will work with Stephanie Hamon, Head of Legal Operations Consulting at NRF, who supports internal legal teams with commercial and business strategies. Steven will advise these clients on the procurement and implementation of LegalTech, particularly in relation to document automation and legal engineering tools, as well as assisting internal teams in deciding which technology is best for them.

David Carter, Global Head of NRF Transform and Chief Product Officer, said, “We are excited to welcome George to the team. He combines an excellent understanding of the legaltech market with a strong commercial perspective gained from advising some of the most demanding companies in the world. “

Steven spent a little over a year as Chief Technology Officer at DocGovern, having previously worked in various consulting and strategy roles at AbacusNext, Nalytics, Accenture and SAS.

Hamon said, “The roles of in-house attorneys have evolved and they need to run their own teams like a company. This is increasingly being supported by technology, be it automation, workflow, visualizations, analytics or tools to support certain functions of the legal team. George has fantastic skills and I look forward to working with him to serve our customers. “

The NRF Transform program aims to improve the efficiency across the company and the effectiveness of its people, processes, technology and data in providing customer service, as well as providing “new law” services directly to customers, such as:

Steven said, “NRF Transform is a great platform to help clients leverage legal technology. The team already has considerable technological skills and, by providing advice on Legal Operations, can support internal legal departments in using technology to solve strategic and practical problems. “

Last month, UK Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance appointed April Brousseau to direct their new research and development center as the company wants to accelerate its digital product development to support lawyers working remotely.

In March, Spanish law firm ECIJA acquired Valencia-based LegalTech consultancy Revamp Law to improve its advice on technology, cybersecurity and legal affairs.
