City Hospice Appoints New Business Ambassadors

Business leaders in South Wales have joined City Hospice as the charity’s new ambassadors.

Ambassador Andrew Walker with Nicky Piper, City Hospice 1 Corporate Relationship Manager

City Hospice is Cardiff’s local hospice serving people with incurable and life-limiting diseases such as cancer, dementia, motor neuron disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

As the only provider of specialized home palliative care in the capital, City Hospice offers 550 patients simultaneous care and compassion, as well as basic counseling and support services for their patients’ families.

The newly appointed ambassadors will support and promote the work of the charity in their communities, as well as support events and fundraising campaigns.

Spiro Borg, Managing Director of Spiro’s Fine Dining, and Chris Macnamara, Managing Director of The Brogue Trader, include, as business ambassadors, Kim Bird, CEO of Before You Go; Catherine Brannigan, The Waterloo Foundation; Sarah Clifford, Commerce and Sales Expert; Terry Edgell, CEO of the Premier Forest Group; Sarah Hughes, South Wales Police Communications Officer; Sarah Lister-Sims, General Manager of Hospital Innovations; Alastair Milburn, Managing Director, Effective Communication; Sara Nurse, SLC Counseling; Clive Thomas, Managing Partner at Watkins and Gunn; and Andrew Walker, director of business development at Resource Ltd.

Andrew Walker said of his new role:

“I’ve helped raise funds for City Hospice for several years, and the more I learn about their work and their impact on our capital, the more I realize that it’s a charity, often shared by others Local nonprofit organizations overshadowed the health sector.

“Covid-19 has brought the reality of terminal care into focus. After losing my own father to this terrible illness and then waiting over a year to hold a service for him, I know how important it is for the terminally ill to have the opportunity to die at home when they do want. The City Hospice team helps and supports the people in Cardiff facing incurable and life-limiting diseases and their families during the most difficult time of their lives. I am very keen to get the message across about City Hospice, what it does for our city and how valuable its work is to each of the 500 or so Cardiff citizens who are in its care each month.

“City Hospice is one of the hidden gems in the Cardiff health care crown. Many business people know the name but have no idea what it is or what it does. I hope that I and the other City Hospice Business Ambassadors will help raise its profile in the South Wales business community, understand its role as a ‘non-residential hospice’ and encourage other business people to support its work. “

Liz Andrews, City Hospice General Manager said:

“We are very excited to welcome this wonderful cohort of industry leading professionals as our new business ambassadors. Your support will be invaluable in raising awareness of our work and helping us continue to be caring and compassionate to patients and families in the community. “
