MBO in planning consultancy in Cheshire

A planning consultancy headquartered in Cheshire went through a management buyout when it entered a “new chapter”.

Established in 1985, Emery Planning Partnership now has 19 consultants providing national urban planning services for applications, appeals, assessments, development funding and environmental impact assessment (EIA) project management.

The board began the process in 2016 and is now led by three senior directors in Caroline Payne, Stephen Harris and Rawdon Gascoigne.

Also on the board are Ben Pycroft and John Coxon, who were both appointed directors in 2019, and Emma Bennion, who was promoted to operations director.

Elsewhere, Nick Smith and Gareth Salthouse have been promoted, and Helen Leggett and Jill Naylor join as assistant directors.

Co-founder Denise Emery, who is stepping down from the board, is confident that the company is in safe hands.

“I couldn’t entrust the business to a more capable team,” she said. “Emery Planning is literally a partnership and the talented people at the top have helped make it as successful as it is today.

“At the heart of our business are the relationships we build with our customers. Relationships that are born of mutual trust and respect.

“As Emery Planning opens a new chapter, these relationships remain at the forefront of our business and we will continue to provide the same high quality professional service that has been our strength since the company was founded in 1985.”

Harris added, “Denise and Peter were early advocates of flexible working at a time when no one entertained it as a concept.

“We intend to preserve and nurture this culture and our wonderful and talented team so that they stay with us, grow with us and together continue to deliver exceptional results for our customers.”
