Job created after MBO at South West construction consultancy

A surveying and construction consultancy from South West Quantity, which advised landlords after the Grenfell Tower tragedy, wants to create jobs after a management buyout.

New directors Robin Jackson and Anthony Bassett have bought Taylor Lewis from previous owners Steve Foxon and Ben Couch, who will continue to be important members of the new management team.

Taylor Lewis is an independent, multidisciplinary Chartered Quantity Surveyors company that, in its 29th year of existence, provides a range of professional construction advisory services and advice to the public and private sectors.

Taylor Lewis is best known for project management for affordable housing developments in the south of England and, following the Grenfell Tower survey, one of the UK’s leading land surveyors to advise landlords on passive fire safety.

With a team of 38, the fast growing company has offices in Exeter, Truro and Newport in South Wales and aims to have a presence in London and Manchester.

During the recruitment process, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Bassett are now focused on the continued growth of Taylor Lewis.

Mr. Jackson added, “We are expanding our team to meet demand from both long-term and new customers. Taylor Lewis has a number of national clients, so we would like to offer them greater scope of work in a larger geographic area that covers all of the south of England as far as Manchester. At the same time, we won’t lose sight of what Taylor Lewis has built so far, namely the Southwest Market. “

After two months of negotiations, the MBO deal was finalized with the assistance of Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants and the law firm Trowers & Hamlins.

Mr. Jackson joined Taylor Lewis in 2013 as a senior surveyor before being promoted to associate and head of the Exeter office. Mr. Bassett heads the company’s Truro team after joining the company in 2014.

Mr. Jackson said, “We were facing a very tight negotiation and closing phase which meant we needed the full commitment of our team from the start and I had to be sure that Thomas Westcott and Trowers & Hamlins would meet our ambitious deadline.
