ITC, UNWTO and MICAT Bridge Hole in Liberia’s Tourism Trade by means of Digital Advertising and marketing Coaching

ITC, UNWTO and MICAT Bridge Gap in Liberia’s Tourism Industry through Digital Marketing Training

Monrovia – The International Trade Center (ITC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT), ran a two-day training program on digital marketing for actors in the tourism sector.

The training program, held on February 9-10 at the Royal Grand Hotel in Monrovia, focused on digital marketing fundamentals, website best practices, search engine optimization, and social media marketing activities, and was sponsored by government and private sector stakeholders, including Businesses visiting owners, managers, marketers, IT professionals and other tourism industry workers from Liberia’s attractions, hospitality, media, schools, travel and travel agencies and transport companies.

The digital marketing training was the first training of its kind in Liberia as part of the support for ITC and UNWTO tourism development for Liberia.

UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili said of the program: “Digital marketing is one of the most powerful tools for promoting travel destinations to a broad global audience. This digital marketing training course is designed to help tourism leaders actively promote Liberia as a tourist destination. It builds on the UNWTO’s leadership role in global tourism and the talent of tourism professionals from the private and public sectors in Liberia, and focuses on the key elements of successful digital marketing campaigns including SEO, engagement and storytelling. “

Liberia recently received a new logo, slogan and marketing strategy. The proposed slogan, “Amazing Discoveries”, when finalized, will underpin the country’s tourism brand and drive news for promotional and marketing materials for the country. The training workshop builds on this success and introduces new ideas and knowledge to improve digital marketing skills for tourism stakeholders.

The participants were pleased with the opportunity. Juanita Yiah, Tourism Director at MICAT, said: “The workshop was important in acquiring the key features of digital marketing to tourism professionals in Liberia’s public and private sectors. It gave us useful insights into how we can develop our own digital marketing content. We thank the ITC and UNWTO for their support and cooperation in developing the tourism sector in Liberia. This initiative will go a long way. We appreciate it and will be agents of positive change. The theories learned are practiced in relation to the marketing of the tourism industry in Liberia and applied to our daily lives. “

Thomas Davies of the Liberia Tourism Association stated, “The training was very unique. We learned a lot and had a lot of experience about digital marketing. This will take the tourism sector to another level. “

Judith Zoeta, CEO of Global Express Voyage, said: “I am very grateful to the organizers of the digital marketing training. It really gave us an overview of the digital market and how we can be creative to stimulate and promote our market. We at Global Express Voyage would like to thank the Ministry of Tourism and the organizers. We pray and wish that this will not be the last, but there will be other opportunities to digitally improve the Liberian market.

Speaking about ITC’s support for the escape of the country’s tourism industry, Aklile Habtemariam said, “We are committed to continuing to build capacity in the industry and will continue to work with MICAT and the Liberia National Tourism Association to drive development to successfully support the sector. ”
