IKEA to improve smart technology solutions for customers

IKEA invests in nyris, a German deep tech start-up company, to improve intelligent technology solutions for customers, partners and employees

Inter IKEA Group has made a minority stake in Nyris, a Germany-based, innovative deep-tech start-up that provides visual intelligence technology.

IKEA customers can experience Nyris technology right in the company's Place app, providing the customer with intelligent, responsive information based on their needs and commands. This is just the first in a series of upcoming solutions to help customers with their IKEA experience. For example; in order to make product assembly quicker and easier to react and to have the possibility of coordinating furnishing styles and specific products for the specific customer.

"With this investment, the Inter IKEA Group and all IKEA franchisees can use visual intelligence to offer IKEA customers around the world an up-to-date shopping experience," says Per Krokstäde, Manager for Innovation and Strategic Partnership at Inter IKEA Systems.

For IKEA, new intelligent digital solutions are the key to being more accessible to its customers in both existing and new markets and at physical and digital customer meeting points. By working with nyris, the company will add expertise and state-of-the-art know-how, create digital facility content and enable a seamless customer journey across all meeting points.

Nyris smart technology will improve the shopping experience and visual discovery at IKEA. But it will also improve internal processes and working methods. The warehouses can use the technology for more accurate and faster inventory management, and the company's suppliers can use the technology for a more efficient quality control process.

“The technology will also enable employees and partners to find new solutions to support them in their daily work and to use the possibilities of the deep technology of visual intelligence in the entire integrated IKEA value chain,” says Per Krokstäde.

With this investment, nyris will reach new markets and industries faster, increase visibility and further develop its powerful visual search platform to set new standards for customer-centric AI products.

“It makes us at nyris very happy and proud to be an even closer part of IKEA and its ongoing journey towards an improved digital customer experience. Our contribution and goal at nyris is to make visual search and discovery a unique and engaging experience for everyone, ”says Anna Lukasson, CEO and co-founder of nyris.
