Humber Zero appoints US infrastructure consultancy big Aecom to realize approvals

Marketing agency welcomes growing team to new East Yorkshire base

US infrastructure giant Aecom has been tasked with approving the huge Humber Zero project.

The grand carbon capture and storage plan aims to decarbonize refining and power generation in the South Humber Bank.

The Fortune 500 member will work on permits and other regulatory requirements to integrate the technology into the process units at the Phillips 66 Humber Refinery and the VPI Immingham combined heat and power plant.

It aims to capture up to eight million tons of carbon dioxide by 2030 and thus ties in with the V Net Zero proposal to transport the greenhouse gas via pipelines to permanent storage facilities under the North Sea.

With the support of the DWD planning office, Aecom will guide the infrastructure projects at the neighboring locations through the approval phase, prepare planning and approval applications and support the environmental impact assessment. This includes a detailed review of the impact the projects will have on the local environment and community. Once all approvals have been obtained, final investment decisions can be made before further detailed planning and construction work is carried out.

Dr. Richard Lowe, head of the energy sector at Aecom, said: “Heavy industry needs to decarbonise. So, by integrating world-class CCS technology into the Phillips 66 Humber Refinery and the VPI Immingham facility, we are not only helping to future-proof the region’s economy and jobs by ensuring the factories move into a decarbonized future but we are also working towards the overarching goal of achieving net zero emissions. “

He will speak next week as part of Humber Zero’s contribution to the region’s Waterline Summit.

Jonathan Briggs, VPI Project Leader, Humber Zero, said, “Humber Zero will secure critical industries in the Humber region, which is home to more than 25 percent of the UK’s refining capacity. The decarbonization of industry will ensure its competitiveness and help secure tens of thousands of jobs in the region and beyond. “

Aecom offers professional services throughout the project lifecycle, from planning, construction and construction to program and construction management. and last year it had sales of nearly £ 10 billion.

As reported, Harbor Energy-run company V Net Zero – which is also aiming for a shipping terminal to turn the neighboring port of Immingham into a carbon trading hub – has just granted its storage license from the Oil and Gas Authority.

Prax Lindsey oil refinery and EPUKI-operated South Humber Bank power plant have also joined the V Net Zero collaboration, with a new pipeline replacing a gas pipeline from Theddlethorpe to Immingham as part of a £ 500 million investment.

It is one of two projects being promoted in the Humber, with Zero Carbon Humber planning a dual hydrogen and carbon capture network to serve large emitters and energy-intensive operations across the region.
