Online trade marketplace, hipages, has hired two new faces to join its marketing management team.

The new recruits include Paul Martin, who joins the business in the newly created role of head of growth, and Liz Wise, who becomes head of brand and communications.

Martin has more than 15 years’ experience in digital marketing, customer experience and consumer-led strategies. Originally from the UK, he was responsible for setting up digital marketing agency, Epiphany (now Jaywing) in the local market, then spent two-and-a-half years as general manager of performance marketing consultancy, PeriscoPe. Key brands in his portfolio included Lego, Culture Kings, Budget Direct, Anytime Fitness, Retail Apparel Group and Domain.

Wise, meanwhile, has worked for the last two years in marketing leadership consulting roles. Her resume includes 20 years of agency, consulting and client-side experience, including stints with Razorfish, AKQA, Wunderman and Digital Outlook. Brands on her roster over her career included Ford, Land Rover, Nike, Google, Dyson, BlackBerry, Barclays and Herbal Essences in Australia, the UK, Europe and North America.

A former creative turned strategist, Wise returned to Australia in 2015 and worked at WECollective on relaunching Western Sydney University. She’s also consulted on similar projects for Jurlique, AFTRS and NIDA.

“In finding our next head of brand and comms, we were looking for someone who would not only help elevate our level of strategic brand thinking but someone who also knows what first-class execution looks like. In Liz, we think we’ve filled that requirement completely,” said hipages Group VP of marketing, Nick Ellery.

Martin offered leadership experience, strategic nous and technical expertise, Ellery continued.

“The digital landscape gets more and more difficult to navigate every year, and a lot of our quick wins in this space have already been realised. In order to ensure we continue to innovate and grow in this space, we have appointed Paul as our head of acquisition due to his leadership experience, strategic chops, and technical expertise earned across years of senior roles in digital agencies,” he said.

Hipages now boasts of more than 31,000 trusted trades and over three million users and recently acquired New Zealand business, Builderscrack, for $11.8m in a combined cash and equity deal.
