Stockport-based environmental consultancy Apem has announced the acquisition of Woodrow, an environmental and sustainability consultancy based in County Sligo, Ireland, in a “significant” transaction.

Woodrow’s entry into the Apem Group is the first acquisition for the consulting firm following a management buyout in 2019.

Apem achieved unprecedented growth over the past year, helped by the support of private equity firm WestBridge, which has an office in Manchester and has continued ambitions of expanding into global territories and expanding niche service offerings.

Woodrow was founded in 2004 and provides services in the fields of ecology, energy, sustainable building, environmental education, training, policy and legislative advice.

Led by Will Woodrow and Sharon Eastwood, Woodrow’s reputation in Ireland and quality of service were a driving force behind the merger of the two companies.

Apem’s CEO, Dr. Adrian Williams said, “This is the beginning of an exciting journey for all of us. We are very pleased to welcome such a respected and established company to the circle.

“Woodrow’s commitment to quality, best practices and technical expertise is a perfect fit for Apem. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Will and Sharon over the past few months and I look forward to growing stronger together and offering our existing and new customers an unrivaled range of services. “

Will Woodrow said, “As a growing environmental consultancy founded and established in the North West of Ireland, we are delighted to have found a natural home in the Apem Group that enables us to continue to grow and provide the highest quality of service to our customers .

“The culture at Apem was a key reason for us to join the group and we are very excited about the opportunities it will offer our customers and our employees in the future.”

Will and Sharon, as integral and essential leaders of the company, will in the future work closely with the expanded team of technical experts to provide an enhanced range of services in the UK, Ireland and beyond.

WestBridge Capital Director Peter Barkley said, “Helping the Apem team complement its organic growth plans by acquiring national and international companies with high quality, complementary skills and strong cultural focus is at the core of our strategy.

“We are excited to support Apem in this acquisition and believe that adding Woodrow’s technical expertise and reputation to Apem’s existing capabilities will enable us to better serve the customers of both companies in the Irish market . “
