DHL opens first-of-its-kind cell pop-up retailer within the US

DHL opens the first mobile pop-up store of its kind in the United States

DHL works with Flexetail to create the DHL ServicePoint mobile location

DHL Express, a provider of international express delivery services, opened its first mobile pop-up store in Silver Spring, MD and expanded its extensive network of US retail locations for DHL ServicePoint. It is currently in the Westfield Mall parking lot, at 2,200 cubic feet. The mobile DHL Service Point is the first of its kind in the shipping industry and offers customers a fast and easily accessible shipping option.

"With the increasing popularity of mobile pop-ups for groceries, fashion and more, we saw an excellent opportunity to offer our customers a similar type of hands-on experience," said Greg Hewitt, DHL Express’s US CEO.

“This growing need for convenience combined with the local demand for our international shipping services has prompted us to develop this mobile, flexible shipping solution. The new DHL ServicePoint is part of our overall retail strategy to be closer and more accessible to consumers and to use an innovative mobile model to complement our retail shipping network. "

Although the new pop-up store will remain at its Silver Spring location for the foreseeable future, it may be relocated due to changes in local shipping trends. The entire unit is built on a hydraulic lift and intelligently wired to accommodate all essential amenities such as HVAC, security and computer systems – including a fast and efficient point-of-sale system that can process shipments on the way to destinations in the United States and in one of the 220 countries and territories in which DHL operates.

Consumables such as bubble wrap, tape, and DHL brand cardboard boxes are available. In the coming months, customers can also pick up incoming parcels at this location.

In response to social distance restrictions, this DHL ServicePoint also offers convenient security features, including call-ahead service (labels and packaging are ready when the customer arrives to reduce waiting times) and an easily accessible service window that saves visitors from entering the store .

The company worked with Flexetail to create this DHL ServicePoint mobile location. By designing and building flexible mobile businesses like this, Flexetail offers brands an affordable way to test products, explore new markets, and launch new lines.

As part of its general retail strategy, DHL plans to open additional DHL ServicePoint mobile locations in other key markets by the end of the year. The company recently opened its first fully-branded US retail store in Miami, followed by another in Chicago.

In addition to new company-owned branches, over 7,100 independent DHL ServicePoint partner branches are active in the US market. They offer international express shipping by DHL Express (among others), global knowledge and competent advice to support companies in reaching the international market.
